Conservative media personality Katie Miller offered some unexpected praise for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., after the progressive lawmaker revealed that she has decided to freeze her eggs.
Miller, who is married to White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, said Sunday that Ocasio-Cortez’s decision should be celebrated, particularly if it encourages other women to consider having children.
“If one woman wants to preserve her right to have children, which means more than having none—we should celebrate that,” Miller wrote on X. “If she inspires other women to have babies, we should celebrate that.”
Miller also used the announcement to criticize what she called the “feminist lie,” arguing that more women should marry and begin having children at younger ages rather than focusing their childbearing years on advancing their careers.
“More women should get married and have babies younger, but too many women buy into the feminist lie and spend their childbearing years climbing the career ladder,” Miller wrote.
She continued by arguing that greater exposure to babies among younger men and women could ultimately result in more children being born.
“When society has more babies and more young women and men are exposed to more babies, there will be more babies,” Miller said.
Miller acknowledged that every woman takes a different path toward becoming a mother and said she was interested in seeing what impact motherhood could eventually have on the New York Democrat.
“Everyone’s journey to motherhood is different, just as each of us mothers differently,” Miller wrote. “I can’t wait to see how motherhood changes AOC.”
Ocasio-Cortez announced Saturday that she had begun the process of freezing her eggs, sharing the personal decision with her followers on Instagram.
The congresswoman said she normally keeps her private life out of the public eye but decided to discuss the process because she had spent considerable time weighing whether to do it.
Ocasio-Cortez said she had also been saving money for the procedure “for a very long time” and explained that the process could feel “very daunting.”
She shared videos showing herself alongside her French bulldog, Deco, while discussing the medicine involved in the procedure.
Ocasio-Cortez also filmed herself administering the medication through an injection. Afterward, she said it “wasn’t so bad.”
The decision was not entirely new territory for Ocasio-Cortez.
In 2020, the Democratic congresswoman revealed that she had been thinking about starting a family and was already considering whether she should freeze her eggs.
“I’m sitting here, I’m like, ‘Do I freeze my eggs? Can I afford to do that?’” Ocasio-Cortez told Vanity Fair at the time.
She also said her orthodontist had discussed undergoing in vitro fertilization with her, prompting Ocasio-Cortez to ask questions about the experience.
Six years later, Ocasio-Cortez has now moved forward with the process — drawing praise from Miller despite their political differences.
