House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is reportedly expected to meet with billionaire Elon Musk next week as Republicans prepare for the approaching midterm elections, according to a new report.
Politico reported that four sources confirmed the planned meeting between Johnson and Musk. However, the outlet cautioned that the SpaceX owner’s schedule remains “fluid,” meaning the timing of the meeting could potentially change.
The expected sit-down comes with fewer than 70 days remaining before the midterm elections and amid speculation that Musk could once again spend heavily to support Republican candidates.
Musk spent a staggering $277 million boosting President Donald Trump and other GOP candidates during the 2024 election cycle. He also repeatedly placed himself in the center of the political campaign before later becoming deeply involved with the Department of Governmental Efficiency, commonly known as DOGE.
The billionaire is now considering distributing $100 million during this election year through his America PAC, according to Politico.
Any decision by Musk to unleash another major wave of political spending could further strengthen the Republican Party’s already substantial financial advantage over Democrats heading into the midterms.
America PAC declined to comment when contacted by Politico about the planned meeting and possible election spending.
A spokesperson for Johnson did not immediately respond to Mediaite’s request for comment.
Republicans currently hold a massive cash advantage over their Democratic rivals as the midterm campaigns enter their final stretch.
The Republican National Committee reportedly has approximately $130 million in cash on hand. The Democratic National Committee, by comparison, has about $16 million available, leaving the GOP with a dramatically larger financial reserve ahead of Election Day.
Musk’s possible $100 million investment through America PAC would only add to that advantage, giving Republican candidates another potentially powerful source of outside financial support.
The meeting also comes as recent polling indicates growing dissatisfaction among voters. Politico noted that additional spending from Musk could prove significant for the GOP as the party confronts signs of discontent heading into the election.
Musk’s role in the 2024 campaign demonstrated his willingness to spend enormous amounts of money to influence the political landscape and help Republican candidates. His potential involvement this year could once again make him a major financial force during an election cycle.
For Johnson, the reported meeting arrives as House Republicans work to capitalize on their commanding fundraising edge while preparing for the final weeks of the midterm campaign.
Neither Johnson’s office nor America PAC has publicly detailed what the pair expects to discuss. Politico’s sources confirmed the meeting plans but emphasized that Musk’s schedule could shift.
If the meeting goes forward and Musk follows through with the reported $100 million in possible spending, Republicans would further expand their already lopsided cash advantage at a critical stage of the midterm race.
